Asbestos management surveys, previously known as Type 1 and Type 2 asbestos surveys, check premises for asbestos by taking building samples and carrying out risk assessments.
An asbestos management survey comprises of sampling, identification and assessment of asbestos containing materials, presented in a comprehensive report, to enable you the duty holder to comply with the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012.
The purpose of the survey is to locate, as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any suspect ACMs in the building which could be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy.
A comprehensive risk assessment of their condition (material) and potential to release fibres (priority) is undertaken. Samples from each type of suspect ACM are collected and analysed to determine their asbestos type. The above data will allow you, the client, to prioritise the management of ACM's within your building and to ensure your duty to manage asbestos-contained materials within your premises and compliance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012.
Asbestos refurbishment or demolition surveys, previously type 3 asbestos surveys, are required prior to any major refurbishment or demolition work to locate all asbestos-containing materials in the building. To ensure legal compliance and the safety of all employees, this material is then removed from the building before any future work begins.
A refurbishment and demolition survey is used to locate and describe, as far as reasonably practicable, all ACMs in the building or localised area of interest.
This type of survey may involve, if necessary, destructive inspection, to gain access to all areas, including those that may be difficult to reach. A full sampling programme is undertaken to identify possible ACMs and estimates of the volume and surface area of ACMs found.
